Srimath Rahasya Traya Saram is the masterpiece of Sri Vedanta Desikar popularly and reverentially known as SWAMI DESIKAN. He was a great SriVaishnava scholar of 13th and 14th century. He was a logician, philosopher and poet par excellence. He is known as Kavi Taarkika Simha meaning lion among poets and Logicians. Swamy Desikan was conferred with the title of Vedantha Charya meaning preceptor of Vedanta, by Lord Sri Ranganatha and Sarva Tantra Swantantra, meaning master of all arts and crafts, by Goddess Sri Ranganayaki, in recognition of Swamy Desikan’s unfathomable depth of scholarship in all fields of learning.
Among the 120 works of Swamy Desikan , the Rahasya Traya Sara is the most important one. It is one among the Grantha Chatustayas, along which are, Sri Bhashya & Geeta Bhashya of Bhagawad Ramanuja, Bhagawad Vishayam of Sri Kurukesha or Tiru-Kkuruhai-Piran-Pillan. These four Granthas are to be studied by every SriVaishnava under the feet of an Acharya and well consolidated on mind for further propagation.
Rahasya Traya Saram holds a prominent position among Grantha Chatustaya's. It is a gist of the remaining three. If one is well versed in Srimath Rahasya Traya Saram he is considered as a well equipped scholar in Visishtadvaita philosophy of Bhagawad Ramanuja.
Sri Kumara VaradaCharya the illustrious son of Swamy Desikan in his work Prarthana Achtaka prays to Swami Desikan that , he be endowed with firm conviction in the ethical and moral teachings contained in Rahasya Trayam for putting them in action. In fact this should be the prayer of every SriVaishnava.
Srimath Rahasya Traya Saram is a masterly and detailed treatise on Prapatti or Saranagati. Saranagati is a well-established means for attaining Moksham or Salvation. This work is compared to river Ganges in which a dip wards off all sins. Ganges originates from the holy feet of Vishnu or Vishnu Pada.
In the case of Rahasya Traya Saram, the Vishnu padam is Swami Desikan himself from which the river of Rahasya Traya Sara originates. A dip in this means, going through the entire text, and constantly remembering the contents, will free the individual from all sins and he will definitely attain Moksha or Salvation after performing the Prapatti.
This beautiful work is in ManiPravallam, which is a mixture of Sanskrit & Tamil. This can be read by one and all irrespective of caste and creed. For this purpose only, Swami Desikan has not quoted even a single sentence from Vedas in this work. Rahasya Traya Saram is the most important among 32 Rahasyas composed by Swami Desikan.
Rahasya is the teaching imparted by an Acharya to the Disciple in private or in camera. Rahasya Traya Sara has 32 chapters. Each chapter is captioned as an Adhikara. These 32 Adhikaras are preceded by the Guru Parampara Sara.
